Golden start to 2010 for Draper and St Bedes

Published on 11 January 2010

Evan Draper - St Bede's Aquatic ClubNo snow was going to put off the St Bede’s swimmers from competing at the Tom Handley Open Meet at Brighton! It was certainly worth the journey as the squad brought home a great medal collection. In the age 15+ grouping Tom Lamb, Anthony White and Andrew Horsfall-Turner took the first three places in a thrilling 200m Individual Medley race that left the rest of the field trailing.  Evan Draper is rapidly establishing himself in the St Bede’s squad as he took a hat-trick of gold medals and we will certainly be seeing a lot more from him. Stephanie Ketley started off 2010 as she means to go on, cruising inside the National Qualifying times for the 200m Free and 200m Back.

Just out of the medals but still managing to take personal best times were, Bethany Tagg, Ben Jones and Alex Fenwick.

Head Coach Kevin Ayers commented, “it was good to see the swimmers put in good performances after the usual Christmas excesses! They now have to continue moving forward to firmly establish themselves as the people to beat in 2010”.

Medals were taken as follows:
Charlotte Chapman (11): Gold 200m Free
Katherine Horsfall-Turner (12): Gold 200m Fly
Cristina Richards (14): Silver 200m Breast, 200m IM
Amelia Mitchell (14): Silver 100m Breast
