Michael Faber wins the Young Sports Personality of the Year award
Mike-Faber-2009-Sports-Pershas won the Kent & Sussex Courier Young Sports Personality of the Year award!
The awards dinner took place at the Salomons Conference and Events Centre in Tunbridge Wells and Mike was presented with his award by motor racing legend John Surtees (the only man ever to win World Championships on 2 and 4 wheels!). As well as his father, Mike was accompanied by Head Coach Kevin Ayers and Swimming Captain Nick Ayers.
Mike commented “It's great to be recognised. Swimming forms a major part of my life as I train 4 hours every day - not many people realise that is what swimmers have to do. I could not have made all my achievements without a truly fantastic coach in Kevin Ayers who over the last 3 years has revolutionised the way I swim. I should also thank St Bede's School for all their support with my education as my life is easier than most swimmers as I train during my school day. As I have to be at school at 5.30 am and get to all my competitions, I also need the support of my parents, so thanks Mum & Dad! Finally thanks to the Courier and everyone that voted for me.”
