St Bede’s swimmers book their places at Sheffield
It was time for the St Bede’s senior squad to put their training to good use as they competed at the.
Tom Lamb (17) was on great form as he booked his place at the National Championships with a superb swim in the 400m Individual Medley, taking the gold medal in a time of 4:48:70 and going under the qualification time by nearly 5 seconds. He nearly made it a double as he produced another brilliant effort in the 200m Fly, coming home in a time of 2:16:33 to just miss another qualification time by an agonising 0.07 of a second!
Stephanie Ketley (16) took the next National Time for St Bede’s as she took Gold in the 400m Freestyle, touching in a time of 4:29:03.
Not to be outdone, although perhaps not at his best, Michael Faber achieved his qualification time in the 50m Freestyle hitting the wall in 24:90.
The other medallist in the squad was Andrew Horsfall-Turner (15) who came close to emulating Tom Lamb in the 400m IM, as he swum well to take the Bronze in a time of 5:05:41
All the squad produced great times and several other swimmers came very close to National Qualification. The season is still young and we shall see more from Mary Carless, Katherine Horsfall-Turner, Rebekah Chapman, Eve Carless, Cristina Richards, Charlotte Chapman, Will Condron, Alex Fenwick and Ben Jones.
Head Coach Kevin Ayers was pleased with the overall performance, saying “the squad are still training hard and we don’t let up before competitions at this stage of the season so they are swimming tired. If they can produce the goods when tired watch this space!”
